If you’re heading outdoors this weekend, be sure to skip drinking and driving.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department received an overtime grant of about $20,000 dollars from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, allowing them to step up patrols looking for drivers or boaters under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
“We do have officers that have received specialized training that we would be able to allow them to travel to those specific planned operations,” said Tim Baumgarten, with the department. He said the grant money helps staff DUI checkpoints.
Baumgarten said this is the first time they’ve received an overtime grant from the office. They will have an operation going on this weekend at Lake Havasu.
