The Arizona Board of Regents held a special meeting this week in Phoenix. On the docket was an in-depth discussion regarding concerns about leadership transitions at the University of Arizona Medical School Campus downtown.

The concerns were raised by the Arizona Medical Association. The group recently requested an investigation into why the school’s former dean and several academic leaders resigned and took jobs at a new medical school in Texas.

During the meeting Board of Regents President Eileen Klein outlined several actions the group is taking to respond to these concerns like several future meetings and public hearings.

U of A’s Senior Vice President for health sciences, Joe Garcia, acknowledged the challenges. He pointed out that new leaders at the phoenix medical school are already being named. Garcia added the school has identified and is working to fix communication gaps with the Arizona Medical Association.
