The Barrister Place office building sits across the street from CityScape and down the block from US Airways Center and Chase Field, used to house the Phoenix Police Museum and several City of Phoenix departments.

The Phoenix City Council this week voted to sell one of downtown’s most iconic buildings – the Jefferson Hotel, also known as the Barrister Building, on the southeast corner of Central and Jefferson.

Some Phoenicians may also recognize its exterior from a brief appearance in Alfred Hitchcock’s movie, “Psycho.” The building, constructed in 1915, was one of the first high rises downtown at six stories tall, said Michelle Dodds, Phoenix’s historic preservation officer.

Developer Crescent Bay Holdings plans to create 88 condo units and space for shops and restaurants in the Barrister Building and on adjacent property.

Dodds said the developer will help bring the Jefferson Hotel and the surrounding area back to its "full glory."
