The city of Kingman will ask for a Phoenix law firm’s help in its ongoing quest to recover about $1.1 million allegedly stolen by a former employee.

Diane Richards was fired as city budget analyst shortly after her arrest on suspicion of theft, forgery and misuse of city money between 2007 and 2015.

The city accused its former auditing firm, Heinfeld, Meech & Co., P.C. of negligence in a demand letter for failing to identify financial discrepancies allegedly caused by Richards.

Lawyers with The Doyle Firm, P.C. in Phoenix will evaluate the case, said Carl Cooper, Kingman's city attorney.

Kingman is also working with Arizona Municipal Risk Retention Pool to keep costs down as it tries to recover money from the firm and Richards, he said.
