Large Number Of Dead Fish Turning Up Along Verde River

The Arizona Game and Fish Department says a significant number of fish have died along the Verde River below Horseshoe Dam.

Nick Walter with the agency says, "Some of our best fisheries biologists are out there right now collecting water quality samples and analyzing the fish for bacteria, and viruses and parasites and also getting an estimation to the extent of the die-off."

Walter says the area in Tonto National Forest southwest of Payson is known to be a good place for fishing, which is why Game and Fish is advising anglers to avoid eating dead or dying fish.
