Interstate 10 traffic.

Officials with the Arizona Department of Transportation are gearing up for the heavy traffic expected this holiday weekend.

ADOT says it's identified three travel corridors this 4 th of July weekend: I-17 between north Phoenix and Flagstaff, I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson and State Route 87 between Mesa and Payson.

Doug Pacey, an ADOT spokesman, said officials have strategically placed equipment along those routes.

"Things like loaders, utility trucks, attenuators," he explained. "That way in the event of a crash we can have a faster response time and minimize travel delays for the traveling public."

ADOT reported 11 fatal crashes last 4 th of July weekend, eight of which involved drivers who had been drinking.
