June Meteorite Discoveries 'Something Really Exciting' For Valley Researchers

A suspected meteor trail near Phoenix occurred on June 2, 2016.

A flashing light in the skies over the Valley in the early morning on June 2 has led to an exciting discovery. Researchers have found pieces of a small asteroid, and a team of meteorite hunters recently located 15 meteorites on tribal lands after getting permission to search.

"We're always waiting for something really exciting to happen and that's what happened here," said Laurence Garvie, a member of the team and curator for the ASU Center for Meteorite Studies.
