Arizona Hosting Phone-A-Thon To Collect Back Child Support

Arizona’s Division of Child Support Services is taking a unique approach when it comes to collecting back child support. The agency is hosting a phone-a-thon Thursday.

Gerald Richard with the Department of Economic Security says, "The purpose of the phone-a-thon is for individuals to call in and get back on track as far as child support payments and to avoid any court action and let us work with them in order that we can help their families and also make them whole again."

In May, DCSS officials say they collected $32-million in child support from all their enforcement efforts, including a similar phone-a-thon event.

The phone lines will be open until 3 p.m. today.

EDITOR'S NOTE: A previous version of this story did not clarify that the $32-million in child support raised in May came from all enforcement efforts.
