The official start of the Summer Olympics in Rio is August 5, and anticipation is building. As part of that, the Arizona Republic is holding a Storytellers event Tuesday, July 19 at Mesa Arts Center. It’ll feature memories from journalists and former Olympians from Arizona.
One of those former Olympians is archer Judi Adams. She made the 1980 team, but the U.S. boycott of the Moscow Games put her dreams on hold. She was persistent but failed in her 1984, ’88 and ’92 efforts. Thought difficult, the experiences taught her something.
"You can't be much of an archer unless you can learn to let go," Adams said.
Then as 36-year old, in 1996, she succeeded.
The Show also got insights from Arizona Republic reporter Jeff Metcalfe, who has covered 12 Olympic Games.
