Despite a string of ownership bumpiness and some unease over where the organization’s home ice would be, the Arizona Coyotes are considered to be an up-and-coming team in the National Hockey League.
To learn more about the current condition of the franchise and its use of data, we spoke with the Coyotes’ new General Manager John Chayka about:
The team
"We got a lot of good young players, that some of them are more established now... We also have some high-end players that are still, you know, cutting their teeth at the junior level and we have high, high expectations of them."
How analytics fits into hockey
"It's just another lens to view the game through and help us make better decisions because nothing in life has full certainty...My job is to be as thorough as possible and gather as much information as possible to make the best decision that I can."
His preferred style of play
"I think it's kind of the up-tempo puck possession style that a lot of teams are trying to execute on."
