The highest-profile part of the final night of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland was reserved for presidential nominee Donald Trump’s acceptance speech.
Not long before Trump took to the podium, Silicon Valley investor Peter Thiel spoke. The openly-gay Thiel talked a bit about his sexual orientation and received cheers. The last known gay person to address an RNC was former Arizona Rep. Jim Kolbe, who spoke in 2000.
We talked about the GOP and LGBT issues with Matthew Shuman, co-president of Arizona’s Log Cabin Republicans, a group that represents gay conservatives.
"There are some people who are saying that the Republican party platform for this year is the most anti-LGBT platform in the party's 162-year history and they are also saying the speeches and addresses are the most pro-LGBT in the 162-year history of the party," Shuman said.
