Fire crews rescued four people from Phoenix trails today Monday in two separate, heat-related incidents.
In the first incident, a group that included a man, woman and 12-year-old boy called 911 around noon, after suffering from heat-related issues on Camelback Mountain. A fire department spokeswoman said the family, who had been hiking for five hours, had recently moved to the Valley. They were airlifted by fire department crews.
A few hours later, crews assisted a 33-year-old man down Piestewa Peak. The man, who described himself as an avid hiker, called 911 close to the bottom on the trail. Crews walked him back down, and gave him cold water to drink.
These rescues come just a few days after a 12-year-old boy died in North Phoenix while hiking in temperatures around 110 degrees.
