DNC Day One: Phoenix Mayor Stanton Praises Sanders, First Lady Speeches

Arizona delegates are looking forward to day two of the Democratic National Convention.

Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton is in Philadelphia and believes Bernie Sanders’ speech Monday night did the job of healing and uniting the party.

“Bernie Sanders did the right thing to endorse Hillary Clinton because he knows that if his campaign meant anything, Donald Trump can’t be the next president of the United States," Stanton said. "So I thought it was a gracious speech.”

Another highlight for Stanton was First Lady's speech. “Michelle Obama” he said as his voice cracked, “I’m still crying. That was one of the most powerful speeches that I have even seen in my political life.”

Fellow Democrat and former Arizona Attorney General candidate Felicia Rotellini says Sanders went a long way to heal the rift with the Clinton wing of the party. “I understand what it feels like to put your heart and soul in to your beliefs about how a country should be run or how a state should be run,” she said.

Meanwhile, Arizona Congressman and Sanders supporter Raul Grijalva also addressed the convention crowd on day one. He told progressives to continue their movement, but urged supporters to work to elect Hillary Clinton.
