A few years ago, federal court officials declared a judicial emergency in Arizona. There was such a backlog of cases because of a shortage of judges that trials had to be delayed for months. Some of those cases were related to illegal immigration.
A new report by the group Grassroots Leadership called “ Indefensible: a Decade of Mass Incarceration of Migrants Prosecuted for Crossing the Border” studied, in part, what effect immigration policy has had on the court system over the past decade.
We talked about the report with Bethany Carson, an immigration policy researcher and organizer with Grassroots Leadership.
