Supporters start filing in at the Pence rally at the Phoenix Convention Center on Aug. 2, 2016.

Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence was in Arizona Tuesday campaigning for running mate Donald Trump. After spending his morning in Tucson, Pence made his first visit to Phoenix since joining the Republican ticket.

Despite heavy rains and flooding, several hundred supporters made it to the Phoenix Convention Center in time for Pence’s speech.

The Indiana governor answered a handful of audience questions, but stuck closely to his campaign’s main talking points including the economy and immigration.

"Donald Trump has been very clear about opposing sanctuary cities. We’ve simply got to be a nation with borders again and there will be strong borders in the Trump administration," Pence said.

He also did not address the current feud between Trump and the Muslim parents of a slain Army captain. "It’s change versus the status quo and my friends here in Arizona let me make a promise to you, when Donald Trump becomes president of the United States of America the change will be huge."

Only one protester was escorted out of the venue after yelling “Donald Trump is a racist” as Pence was wrapping up.
