Roadways Added To Loop 202 Now ADOT's Responsibility

Several Phoenix roadways are now officially part of the 22-mile, Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway. That means the Arizona Department of Transportation is now responsible for maintaining them.

Those streets include parts of Pecos Road along the east end of the freeway route and 59th Avenue along the west end.

Each end of the South Mountain Freeway will connect with the I-10 to complete a long planned expansion of the metro area’s freeway system. Making city streets a part of the future freeway means ADOT will have to maintain them.

Phoenix will once again assume responsibility for any streets that don’t become part of the Loop 202 once it opens in 2019
