The City of Tempe announced it will begin accepting new applications for its Section 8 voucher program. The application window will be open for two weeks starting September 1st.
When Tempe’s housing authority last opened its waitlist to low income families and individuals over a year ago, more than 7,000 people applied.
Craig Hittie with the City of Tempe says the good news is there are plenty of vouchers. "Anywhere from 150 vouchers maybe up to 175 depending on any particular month, we’re pulling pretty quickly now from our wait list that we’ve got and we anticipate fully exhausting our current waitlist within the next few months."
Hittie says that means new applicants who make the list this time around could also find help in a matter of months versus years.
