Eloy Detention Center.

A measles outbreak that shuttered an immigrant detention facility in Pinal County, Arizona and sickened 22 people is officially over, health officials announced.

By the end of saga that started in late May, 13 detainees and nine employees from the Eloy Detention Center were infected with the highly contagious disease. The last case was confirmed in late June.

The outbreak forced the U.S. government to close its immigration court and limited activity in the detention center itself. Controlling the outbreak was hampered by federal immigration and customs enforcement employees who refused to be vaccinated or refused to show that they’d already been immunized.

Arizona health officials continue to monitor the first reported case.
