Possible Rate Change For Small Utility In Southern Arizona Could Set Precedent

This week Arizona’s public utilities commission will take up a request by a small utility to raise rates and change the way some customers are billed.

While UNS Electric only serves about 90,000 customers in Santa Cruz and Mohave counties, how the commission rules on policies like net-metering for solar customers and so-called “demand rates” could set a precedent for other cases this year, which would affect many more Arizona ratepayers.
