Health officials in Pima County have begun trapping mosquitoes in the area around Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, after a service member stationed in the Caribbean returned to base with the Zika virus.
Pima County Health Department Director Francisco Garcia says while he doubts the virus will be found in local insects, they’re being proactive.
"Because of the aggressive messaging we've been doing, in terms of mosquito bite prevention and mosquito habitat reduction that we will avoid this one."
No mosquitos in Arizona have yet tested positive for Zika, but Garcia is urging everyone to limit exposure to mosquitoes as much as possible.
