Google has been testing self-driving cars in Chandler for several months, and now you can get a close-up look at how the technology works. Google is hosting an open house Saturday at Soho63 in Chandler at 11 a.m.
Jennifer Haroon with the Google Self-Driving Car Project said even though you won’t be able to go for a ride, attendees can sit inside the car and learn more about it.
“We’ll have an exhibit that shows one of our sensors that normally is on the car and it shows how it is able to see objects, so kids will be able to get in front of it and see if they can find themselves in the Point Cloud, which is what the sensor produces,” Haroon said.
Haroon said there will be information sessions every hour starting at 11:30 a.m. where people can ask questions about the project.
The event follows General Motors’ announcement earlier this week that they began testing their own model of self-driving cars in Scottsdale.
The technology has been controversial due to crashes.
