Expert: D-Backs Stadium Sale Would Be Unusual Deal

Chase Field in downtown Phoenix.

It’s not quite strike three for the Diamondbacks in their relationship with Maricopa County, but the Stadium District’s Board of Directors has voted unanimously to sign a letter of intent to sell Chase Field.

The Diamondbacks’ home field could end up being owned by Integral Group LLC, if the process moves forward.

"It's the first time I can recall anyone trying to sell a stadium to a third party," said Neil deMause, author of the book "Field of Schemes."  He follows stadium plans and disputes across the country.

"What's odd to me is thinking anybody is going to make money on the deal," deMause said. "I don't know what there is in owning Chase Field, but not owning all the revenues from the Diamondbacks, that would cause a private firm to want to invest $60 million in this."
