The Department of Veterans Affairs has announced the retirement of its Phoenix Medical director. This is the latest development in what has been a revolving door of directors at the Phoenix VA.

Deborah Amdur was appointed medical director just nine months ago at the Phoenix VA. She was the fourth person to serve as director in two years. In a statement the VA officials said Amdur is leaving for personal health reasons.

The changes began when former director Sharon Helman was removed from office after whistleblowers brought the national wait list scandal to light. Last month the VA fired 3 senior officials at the Phoenix Hospital for negligence and oversight.

Barbara Fallen has been named the acting director. She served as director of the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System in southern California and worked at the Phoenix VA from 1985 to 1987
