Arizona’s Food Retailers Weigh In On Prop 205 Pot Measure

The Arizona Supreme Court is expected to decide this week whether Prop 205, the proposal seeking to legalize recreational marijuana, will make the November ballot and the organization that represents Arizona’s grocers is paying close attention.

President of Arizona’s Food Marketing Alliance Tim McCabe says despite rules and drug testing standards within his industry, he’s concerned about employees potentially coming to work high.

"If marijuana gets legalized recreationally, then we’ve got some issues that we get concerned of whether you’re a grower, supplier or retailer, that it’s a safety issue. What if they drive a forklift? What if they drive a truck? What if they do things around other people? It becomes a safety issue," he says.

The association primarily represents Arizona’s food retailers, and also works with suppliers and growers.
