Scottsdale Fire Department Wrangles 3 Large Snakes In A Month

For the third time in a month, Scottsdale Fire Department has had to remove non-native snakes from residents' backyards. All three have been found around the same area of 75th Street and Osborn Road.

The first snake, a 10-foot long albino boa constrictor, has been claimed by its owner who said he escaped after the gate was left open. The other two snakes have not been claimed and are being kept at the Phoenix Herpetological Society.

“They’re not dangerous in the case that they are not venomous snakes," said Daniel Marchand, executive curator at the society. "They are not like a rattlesnake. But these are large snakes ranging anywhere from seven to nine feet in length…so the danger becomes to small pets, as to small cats and dogs."

Marchand advises that if you see a snake in your area, stay away and call the Fire Department immediately so that it can remove it. The departments non-emergency line is 480-312-8911.
