Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will visit Mexico’s president Wednesday in Mexico City.
The Mexican president said Tuesday night he had extended an invitation to both Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Trump and the Mexican government confirmed Tuesday night on Twitter that the meeting would be held Wednesday.
Trump said he’s looking forward to meeting President Enrique Peña Nieto.
The meeting will be private, and there are no public details about what the two will discuss. But Peña Nieto has categorically dismissed two hallmarks of Trump’s campaign: the promise that Mexico would pay to build a wall between the two countries, and the characterization of undocumented Mexican immigrants as criminals.
Trump will travel from Mexico City to Phoenix, where he will give a speech on immigration Wednesday evening.
I have accepted the invitation of President Enrique Pena Nieto, of Mexico, and look very much forward to meeting him tomorrow.
