Arizona voters will decide in November whether to increase the state’s minimum wage. The state Supreme Court gave the go ahead to put the measure on the ballot on Tuesday.
The Arizona Restaurant Association and others challenged the ballot question— Proposition 206— but the state Supreme Court said in a memo that they waited too long to do so.
The measure would raise the minimum wage from $8.05 an hour to $12 by 2020. The decision by the state’s high court comes after a previous challenge was filed in superior court, alleging not all the signatures were valid.
Along with hiking the hourly wage, the initiative would require large employers to offer five paid sick days a year.
