A new aquarium has opened near Scottsdale on the Salt River Indian Reservation, a project has been 20 years in the making.
The 200,000 square-foot OdySea in the Desert is boasted as the Southwest’s largest aquarium. Doors officially opened Saturday.
Ran Knishinsky, the aquarium's chief marketing officer, said they’ve had a busy couple of days with “thousands of people” in lines out the door.
“It’s really all hands on deck helping to go ahead and shuttle the customers in, but certainly we’re seeing 10s-of-thousands this weekend just as we have planned,” he said.
The facility had one small hiccup Sunday morning when fire fighters were called to respond to a smoke alarm. Knishinsky said the issue was quickly resolved and is being connected to a malfunctioning air-conditioning unit. The aquarium was able to open and resume normal operations.
