Grand Avenue will close in both directions Wednesday night so crews can pour concrete on the bridge deck over Bell Road.

Both directions of Grand Avenue near Bell Road will close overnight Thursday as work continues on a new overpass in the northwest Valley, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Wet weather forced officials to push the closure back 24 hours. It’s now scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Thursday and go until 5 a.m. Friday. Traffic will detour onto Dysart and Litchfield roads so crews can pour concrete for a new bridge over Grand Avenue.

A portion of Bell Road has been closed for months while crews built the bridge. Construction stopped for several weeks this summer after a girder collapsed and injured a pair of construction workers.

Despite the delay, ADOT officials said Bell Road will reopen by November. The entire project cost about $42 million, and it’s on track to be done by next spring.
