The race for Arizona’s 5th Congressional District is headed back to court.
On Tuesday, the Christine Jones campaign asked the court for a temporary restraining order to postpone the certification of the results for the 5th Congressional District’s Republican primary. As it stands now, Senate President Andy Biggs leads Former Go Daddy executive Christine Jones by nine votes. The Jones campaign believes it has identified between 300 and 400 ballots that were rejected due to problems with signatures.
Attorney Joe Kanefield represents the Jones campaign and plaintiffs who he says showed up at the wrong polling location.
“Under state law, they are supposed to be directed to go to their correct polling place and they were not given that instruction," Kanefield said. "Instead, they were told they were told that they could vote a provisional ballot at that location and county election officials denied that ballot.”
The judge denied the restraining order request but set a preliminary injunction hearing for Thursday. The election results are set to be certified Monday.
