Tropical storm Newton will be moving through Arizona today after making landfall on the Baja California coast in Mexico yesterday.
Meteorologists said the Tucson area will see the most rain, with 2 to 3 inches of precipitation expected. Marvin Percha with the National Weather Service said the Valley could also see a quarter to a half an inch of rain.
"But there could be still some embedded thunderstorms and those would be capable of producing some heavy rain in a short period of time which could cause some localized flooding," Percha said.
Percha adds tropical depressions in Arizona are rare, with only a handful of previous examples in recorded history. The last one moved through the state in 1997.
