The city of Phoenix and Valley Metro have formally submitted a funding request to the Federal Transit Administration to complete the South Central Light Rail Extension.
The $704 million request will be considered in President Obama’s fiscal year 2018 budget.
The proposed line would extend the light rail to Baseline Road in Phoenix. The city hopes to complete the South Central Extension by 2023 — 11 years earlier than initially planned.
