TGen Developing Test To Detect, Prevent Hospital Acquired Infections

If you have to go to the hospital, you want to be treated for what brought you there in the first place, and then leave.

But, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report more than 720,000 patients ended up with a hospital acquired infection in 2011.

Researchers at the Translational Genomics Research Center, or TGen, have developed a test for detecting one hospital acquired infection. Jolene Bowers, a post-doctoral fellow in TGen’s Pathogen Genomics Division in Flagstaff, explains.
