Early this Tuesday morning around 2 a.m., three Phoenix police officers were injured after 44-year-old Marc Payne assaulted them with his car.
Gas station surveillance footage shows a red sedan speeding up in the parking lot and ramming into the three standing officers, into the police car and through the storefront glass.
One officer suffered a broken leg and another, his first day on the job, was thrown over the police SUV, before getting back up to help arrest the suspect. The third police officer was able to get out of the way.
Phoenix Police Chief Joseph Yahner called this a deliberate attack on local police.
"We have all heard about officers being targeted and ambushed in communities across this nation," Yahner said. "But this happened here, this happened in Phoenix, this happened to your Phoenix police officers. It’s unacceptable.”
Yahner did not release the last names of the police officers, saying they were in shock, and needed time to recover.
Payne is being booked on three counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
