The art of sculpture continues to evolve. It isn’t exactly new that artists like to experiment with different and newer materials or going back to very well-established ones.
Legos are going through their own sort of renaissance among sculptors of all ages.
"I think artists are experimenters and they're always eager to look into new materials and use them," said Mary Neubauer, a professor of art and sculpture at ASU. "The Industrial Revolution brought forth plastics and nylons and structural steels and artists adopted them."
Neubauer uses a 3-D printer to create models she will later construct in materials such as bronze or marble.
"I use the old, I was trained in the old, but I use it in a new way through numbers and computers," Neubauer said.
