As students are settling into their routines this school year, there’s a new effort in Tucson to help students who aren’t doing their learning in the classroom, but in a hospital room.

Banner Health is working with the University of Arizona College of Education on a hospital school program at a children’s hospital in Tucson.

"School is normal part of childhood and when these kids are in the fight of their life, they were not able to have that sense of normalcy," said Kara Snyder, director of pediatric nursing at Diamond Children’s Medical Center at Banner University Medical Center in Tucson. "We said we need to do something about this."
