Fifteen planters line a section of Roosevelt Row in downtown Phoenix.

More than a year after the city of Phoenix placed several five foot terracotta-colored planters along a stretch of Roosevelt Row they’re moving them.

The planters were supposed to provide much needed shade along a stretch or Roosevelt Row, but the city of Phoenix’s Monica Hernandez said residents expressed concerns over the amount of sidewalk space they took up.  So now they’re moving them to a new location.

"We found new homes for them were looking at 7th Avenue corridor," said Hernandez. "This is the area between Indian School and Camelback Road. We’re also looking at the area adjacent to the light rail station on 7th Avenue and Camelback streets."

Hernandez could not say how much it will cost to move the planters, but said the city hopes to remove the planters from Roosevelt Row sometime next month.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been modified to clarify the time frame for the removal.
