The Scottsdale city court system will soon be offering services specifically for veterans.
Later this month the city will join the East Valley Regional Veterans treatment court, which is a partnership of seven East Valley cities.
Gregg Maxon, the presiding judge, said these courts are about more than just holding veterans accountable for their criminal conduct.
"We start off the process with getting them connected with services," explained Maxon. "Whether they need a job whether they have housing issues, we work with them on that. We get them into treatment programs over at the VA if they need them."
Scottsdale’s participation in the regional treatment court is projected to cost about $6,800 in the first year.
