Giant petrified logs at the Petrified Forest National Park.

To celebrate the National Park Service’s centennial, the American Academy of Poets commissioned 50 poems, one about a national park in each poet’s states.

In Arizona, the job fell to the state’s Poet Laureate, Alberto R íos, who wrote about Petrified Forest National Park.

R íos joined The Show to talk about his poem, and the process of writing it.
