It doesn’t look like many Arizonans are planning to stay home on Election Day. The tally of new registered voters is now well into the thousands.
Nearly 120,000 new Arizona voters signed up to participate in the November general election in the past three weeks. That’s according to the Arizona Secretary of State's office, which says Democrats added more than 35,000 voters — Republicans nearly 31,000 and nearly 51,000 signed up without choosing a party.
Registration typically surges in competitive presidential election years, and the big increase is on par with the 2008 increase. Monday was the last day to register, except in Mohave County, which added one day.
Voters who want to cast a ballot in person before Election Day in Maricopa County have that opportunity from Oct. 12 to Nov. 4.
