Some Cuban Cigar Restrictions Lifted In United States

Attention cigar connoisseurs: it’s your lucky day.

For the first time in 50 years, the United States government has lifted restrictions on the famed Cuban cigars and rum.

Travelers to the Caribbean island can now bring home an unlimited amount, as long as it is for personal consumption. Resale in the United States is still restricted. Previously, the Obama administration had set a $100 limit on what is brought back from Cuba.

Jacob Johnson is a sales clerk at Churchills Fine Cigars in Tempe.

"They are great cigars," Johnson said. "I’m not really too concerned about it cutting into our business because resale is still prohibited."

These cigars are limited to travelers, meaning that one can’t simply hop on a computer and order a couple straight to your house. Cigar fans actually have to make the trip to Cuba or any country that sells the tobacco product.

The new rules go into effect on Monday.
