A view of the West Valley. From here there is a clear view of the University of Phoenix Stadium and the White Tank Mountains. The sign is a guide to help identify the mountains in the distance.

The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department will lift its annual fire ban on Saturday.

Cooler temperatures mean visitors to some of the city’s desert preserves and mountains can once again use charcoal and wood fires.

However, smoking outside an enclosed vehicle is still prohibited at all times.

The fire ban went into effect last May and included Camelback Mountain, Papago Park, South Mountain Park and Preserve and North Mountain and surrounding areas.

The ban did not apply to neighborhood parks.
