The record high in Phoenix for Oct. 17 is 102 degrees, which was set in 2009.

Valley temperatures have soared above 90 degrees for 13 consecutive days so far this month.

It’s far from the hottest October on record, though. The record high for today is 102 degrees, which was set in 2009.

"We’ve just had a persistent area of high pressure off to our south, some dry westerly flow and very few storms to cool us off," said Matthew Hersch, with the National Weather Service.

He added we won’t see cooler conditions until the middle of next week.
