Chelsea Clinton Speaks On College Debt At ASU

Chelsea Clinton addressed students at ASU's Tempe campus

The Democratic Party continued a week of heavy campaigning in Arizona Wednesday. Chelsea Clinton was the latest surrogate to make a pitch for her mother’s campaign in the traditionally red state.

Clinton addressed hundreds of enthusiastic students and supporters at the Arizona State University campus in Tempe. Focusing on education, Clinton said as president, her mother would support legislation that would allow students to pay back school loans as a percentage of their income. She also suggested that service should count as loan repayment.

Clinton defined service occupations as "people who are willing to be doctors and nurses, police officers, firefighters. Particularly people who are willing to work in high need areas.”

The Clinton campaign sees Arizona as a competitive state. In addition to sending big name surrogates, the campaign is boosting television, direct mail and digital advertising here.

The most recent polling shows Clinton with a narrow lead over Trump in the bid for Arizona’s 11 electoral votes.
