Grocery prices continue to fall as increasing numbers of stores open across Arizona. The competition isn’t all brick-and-mortar stores — it’s online retailers too.
Supermarket food prices fell in the third quarter of 2016, dropping about 1 percent from the June numbers.
Compared to last year, Arizona’s food prices have decreased about 10 percent — one of the largest spreads in recent years, according to Arizona Farm Bureau’s market basket survey.
Part of the reason is increased competition as more stores open across the state and online sales. WalMart has been rolling out an online grocery service in major U.S. cities — including Phoenix and Tucson.
