Plants Uprooted And Relocated In Arizona For New South Mountain Freeway

Multiple mesquite trees, ocotillo, and barrel cactuses are being uprooted and relocated in preparation for the building of the South Mountain Freeway.

The Department of Transportation said the plants will eventually be replanted once the highway is built.

ADOT has relocated native plants before. Recent projects include construction of Loop 303 and the recent widening of the Loop 101 Pima Freeway in Scottsdale.
