Donald Trump Jr. plans to visit the Southwest on Nov. 4. He’ll start the day in the Valley, then make two stops on the Navajo Nation — in Shiprock and Farmington, N.M.

Trump’s visit comes after his father’s packed rally in Albuquerque on Sunday. Trump drew a big crowd back in May as well. At that rally, protesters jumped on police cars, threw rocks at officers and fought with Trump supporters. Sunday’s protest was more peaceful.

Navajo President Russell Begaye’s spokeswoman says the tribal leader will likely not meet with the candidate’s son. Both Begaye and Vice President Jonathan Nez did attend the Hillary Clinton rally in Tempe on Wednesday. They have endorsed Clinton.

Begaye said in a statement Clinton would be a strong partner. She has committed to strengthening public safety, combating drugs and alcohol and improving Indian health care.

Begaye said he does not feel Donald Trump will respect tribal sovereignty and will set harmful precedents for federal Indian policy.
