The drugstore chain CVS announced today that it's laying off 600 employees, including 70 in Arizona.
The layoffs affect corporate offices in Rhode Island, Illinois and Arizona. The company says those who are losing their jobs will have the chance to apply for other positions within CVS.
In an e-mail, CVS said “an increasingly competitive environment requires us to operate as a more lean and efficient operation.”
CVS will continue to employ more than 7,400 people in about 150 of its stores throughout the state. It has corporate offices in Scottsdale, Chandler and Phoenix.
