A new poll released Friday shows Proposition 205 passing by one percentage point, but well within the margin of error.
Proponents of the recreational marijuana measure just released a new ad reminding supporters to show up on Tuesday and vote.
The ad warns that low voter turnout will cause recreational marijuana use to remain a felony in Arizona, and it shows someone waking up the day after the election to news that Proposition 205 was narrowly defeated.
The local firm Data Orbital has been tracking Proposition 205 since late September. Its latest poll has the measure passing 48 to 47 percent, and 4 percent left undecided.
Proposition 205 has been up and down, and ballot measures are often decided by the amount spent on TV ads, said George Khalaf, president of Data Orbital.
“For a while, the 'yes' side had been outspending the 'no' side,” Khalaf said. “But then, in the very beginning of October, the 'no' side seemed to find their groove. They seemed to find their kind of spending track. And they have been consistently outspending the 'yes' side on TV. “
Khalaf is the former political director of the Arizona Republican Party. He launched Data Orbital this year.
