The City of Prescott has made short-term home rentals legal in residential areas, and has added rules and fees for those who rent out their properties on sites like Airbnb.
The Prescott City Council Tuesday approved legalizing short-term rentals in residential zones for the first time in the city’s history. The new regulations include imposing an occupant limit and requiring a business license. Homeowners will also have to notify their neighbors that the property is being rented, and will have to give them a hotline number to report any violations.
Prescott City Attorney Jon Paladini said these changes will cost about $135 a year for each property, and calls these new rules, “fairly easy to comply with.”
Earlier this year, Gov. Doug Ducey signed a law that stopped cities like Prescott and Jerome from banning these short-term rentals.
